Living and nonliving share - day 2

This friend brought in his family dog, Stella. She is a Rottweiler and is only 4 months old. He told us she is a living thing because she needs food and water and creates waste.

Living and nonliving share - day 1

This friend shared a terrarium. She decided that the plant inside was a living thing because it needs air, food and water.

This friend shared a hawk feather. After much deliberation, she decided it was nonliving. She noted that it used to be part of a living thing. This led to a great class discussion.

Big Partners

We spent some time with our big partners on Friday. We practiced reading our books for our writing celebration. Then we began working on a book about our big buddies.

Our writing celebration

On Friday, we had our writing celebration. All of the kids were so excited and proud to share their stories. They are practicing telling a story across the pages and writing the letter sounds they hear when they stretch out the word. Thanks to all of the folks that were able to join us.

Bicycle wheels and doubles

We are discovering doubles and even numbers with the help of bicycles!

How many wheels on one bike? On two? On three?

Make sure to read our comments about what we noticed.

Living and nonliving sort

First we each drew a picture of a living thing and a nonliving thing. Then we took our learning to the hallway! We sorted our pictures and added them to our bulletin board. We put the living things on the tree and the nonliving things on the rock. We are becoming experts!

We learned that Scientists ask questions .

A fun word greeting!

We had fun greeting each other at morning meeting today. We each had to find the other letter to make a word.

Quiz boards with our big partners

On Friday, we got to visit our big partners in their classroom! They have been learning about electricity and circuits and created quiz boards that they wired to light up when an answer is correct. Awesome!

Over and Under the Snow

On Wednesday, Mrs. Haddock read the book "Over and Under the Snow". We learned about where animals go in the winter. Then we got to sort animals and decide if they are over or under the snow in the winter.

Puppy and Snail

Puppy and Snail (and Mr. Urban too) visited us today to teach us what to do when we hurt someone by accident. Instead of getting mad, we learned how to calm our bodies and ask "what happened"? We let our friend know it was an accident and ask if they are okay. Then we all got to practice.
Thanks Puppy and Snail!

Reading with a buddy

Today we spent some time with reading buddies. Good reading buddies sit side by side, read the words they know together, talk about what they see and take turns choosing books.
