Wednesday

We had a very busy Wednesday.

First, Ms. Maura and Mrs. Corrigan visited us for Four Winds. The lesson this month was about air, We began by looking in a plastic grocery bag to see if anything was inside it. We were surprised to learn that it had air in it!

Then, we got to do some cool experiments. A highlight was to put air into a milk jug with a bicycle pump. The cap came flying off! So exciting!

Then we were given the challenge to make a parachute. We tried them out in the stairwell.

In the afternoon, we met up with our big partners for Jump Rope for Heart. We enjoyed jumping rope, trying out the long rope, dancing and trying out some hula hoops. So much fun!

We had a great Valentine's Day together today.

First, we made "mailbox buddies" to collect all of our valentines. Aren't they cute?

Then, we played a math game using candy hearts as our counters. How many do we need to make a ten?

After lunch, we got to visit the awesome book fair in the library. Many of us got new books.

Then we got to pass out our valentines. We got to practice reading our friend's names.

At choice time, some friends played Post Office and made and delivered even more cards.

Thanks so much for all of the wonderful and very creative valentines. I certainly felt the love from my little friends today.

Our final living and nonliving shares

This friend shared his stuffed bunny. He new that it was nonliving because it does not need air, food or water and doesn't produce waste. It also can't move by itself.

This friend shared his dog Sappho. She is a living thing. She loved visiting with all of the kids!

Living and nonliving- day 5

This friend shared a glass turtle that she got in Maine. She told us it is nonliving because it does not need air, food or water. It also doesn't produce waste. Friends wanted to prove that it didn't move by itself- it didn't, she was right!

Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis shared their dog Trixie with us. She is definitely a living thing. We learned that Trixie is a therapy dog and keeps people company. Trixie did a trick where she laid on her back for a belly rub. She also gave her paw, switching paws really fast.

Thanks to everyone for a week of wonderful sharing. We definitely know what makes something living or nonliving now!

Living and nonliving share- day 4

This friend brought in her cat, Milo. He is a living thing because she needs to feed him, give him water and clean his litter box.

This friend brought in her stuffed bunny blanket. It is nonliving. She does not have to feed it. It cannot move all by itself either!

Living and nonliving share-day 3

This friend brought in a plant. He decided it is a living thing because it needs water and air to grow.

This friend brought in his dog, Beau. He is definitely a living thing. He did some awesome tricks for us - he can even give high fives! Awesome!

This friend brought in a stuffed horse. She said it was nonliving because it can't move by itself. We tried it out on our rug to make sure. She also said she doesn't have to feed it or give it water.
